The track is transcribed in the original key, F Sharp Harmonic Minor, and uses a simple chord progression but with a lot of inversions and extensions. It is a very sad key, especially in its harmonic mode. Extended chords create a unique sound that allows to stand out in the songs' competitions.
Its cyclical chord change (loop) highlights melodic development.
The vocals are typed using the 𝄠 suboctave clef (the treble clef with the numeral 8 below it). Sing one octave lower than written.
“C'est la vie” is composed with a mixed of straight, rubato and swinged rhythm in quadruple time 12/8. Accent strong beats. Notice that the intro is slower than the rest of the song.
I used the original instrumental version to create the piano accompaniment so it's close to the track.
Avoid learning both hands together in the very beginning; you will fail immediately and abandon the score.
Imitates vocal delivery by Claude: a predominant articulation is tenuto.
Avoid precise rhythm, sing freely, use rubato and fermata (𝄐) here and there.
The melody is with sudden changes of rhythmic pattern. I spent two days rewriting it from 4/4 to 6/8 to 3/4 and finally realizing that 12/8 will be a perfect time to notate all patterns that Claude and his co-composers used.

Much of the song’s aesthetic value is generated through stepwise motion that reminds of human speech.
