Please, notice that the upper stave is written one octave higher than it was sung in the original track. Steve Lacy has a very low voice but there would be no place for the left hand if the right hand played as low as Steve Lacy sings.
Vocal in the original track is sinuous and complex, marked by subtle bends and slides, with intense ornamentation. It is impossible to convey on piano with a fixed pitch of the keys. A predominant vocal style is legato.
"Static" is a song with a polyphonic arrengement — the instrumental part provides not only a harmony to support the vocal but also its own melodies. Piano is an instrument that can play a melody and an accompaniment simultaneously.
The key is rarely used E Flat Minor that has sonic parallels to darkness.
